Reminder: Call For Papers: SOSTEJE 2007 Florence
international conference October 7-10, 2007 on our
new website
www.sosteje.org All abstracts should be
completed in English. The length of the abstract
should be a maximum of 250 words submitted by
15.4.2007.
The conference academic committee is composed of
Ephraim Isaac (Chairperson), Emanuela Trevisan Semi,
Michael Corinaldi, Ruby Newman, Bat-Zion
Eraqi-Klorman, Vittorio Morabito and Shalva Weil.
The academic student committee is composed of Simha
Getahon and Anita Nudelman.
Travel scholarships for students: The Student
Academic Committee of Sosteje invites young scholars
and students conducting research on Ethiopian Jews
to submit electronic proposals for papers relating
to the main themes of the conference, according to
the guidelines found in www.sosteje.org.
Presentation of each paper should not exceed 20
minutes in length.
The proposal should be in English. It should include
a title, the name of the presenter and a short
abstract . The abstract should include a short
description of the main thesis, the research
methodology, and/or a description of its primary
sources.
The abstract should be submitted by 15.04.2007 in
Times New Roman font 12 by email the Sosteje office

Scholarship - Criteria
Sosteje will grant five scholarships, $500 each.
Eligible to apply for scholarships are students
enrolled in Masters or Ph.D. programs and whose
research proposals on Ethiopian Jews have been
officially approved. Proofs of eligibility are
requested.
Candidates for scholarships must have the
proficiency to present a paper in English.
Priority will be given to candidates who cannot
receive travel grants from other sources.
Registration dues for the Conference are as follows:
Until 31.7.2007 (early registration):
75 Euros for SOSTEJE members
100 Euros for non-members
60 Euros for SOSTEJE student members
After 31.7.2007:
85 Euros for SOSTEJE members
110 Euros for non-members
70 Euros for SOSTEJE student members
N.B. The dues include a reception on Sunday evening
with the Jewish community, (subsidized) kosher
lunches on Mon. and Tues an abstract book, and more.
Membership Dues
Membership dues are paid every two years, and not
annually, as in the past. Dues are now due for
2007-8. They entitle members to participate in the
Israeli AGM, as well as to receive the bibliography
on Ethiopian Jewry published at the Addis Abeba
conference. The dues are $50 for 2 years, and $30
for students, or 210 shekels or 125 shekels
respectively. Please send your money by mail to: Dr.

Ethiopian Jewry, last degree, and institutional
affiliation. Members who have paid up their dues by
30.5. 2007 for 2007-8 will receive a reduction on
conference registration.
