SOSTEJE Florence international conference October
7-10, 2007
Conference Venue
The conference will take place at COMUNITA' EBRAICA
DI FIRENCE - FLORENCE JEWISH COMUNITY- via Luigi

The conference will open with a light dinner hosted
by the Florence Jewish community (President :
Damiela Misul) on Sunday October 7 and a tour of the
Synagogue and Jewish Museum, and terminate on Wed.
Oct. 10 in the afternoon. All lectures and events
will take place on the campus of the Florence
synagogue.
There will be 30 lectures, 2 films, an historic
exhibition, and a (free) guided city tour of Jewish
Florence. Registration includes two kosher lunches
on Monday and Tuesday, and receipt of an abstract
book, as well as a bibliography prepared by Dr. Lisa
Anteby-Yemini, Scientific Officer of SOSTEJE.
Lunch on Wednesday in the community centre is
optional at EUR 20.00. Please inform the SOSTEJE
office at yonata05@gmail.com immediately (RSVP
up to Monday 24 September 2007 only) , if you wish
to order lunch on the Wednesday. We have ordered 20
lunches for Wednesday on a first come, first serve
basis. Your confirmation will be binding.
There will be a charge of EUR 60 for accompanying
persons. This includes the opening dinner, 2
lunches, bibliography, participation in the
conference and the walking tour.
The conference is sponsored by the Florence Jewish
community, the Italian Zionist Federation, the
Institute of Semitic Studies, Princeton, USA, the
Center for Afro-Jewish Studies, Temple University,
USA, the Vigevani Fund and the Faculty of
Humanities, the Hebrew University of Jerusalem.
DRAFT CONFERENCE PROGRAMME. Please note that some
changes may still take place. A final programme will
be issued for the conference.
All lectures are to be presented in the English
language and are to be 20 minutes duration, except
for the two films, which have 3/4 hour to present.
Discussion will follow the lectures.

A list of hotels in Florence are available on our
site. Hotel Arizona, where we received a subsidy, is
now full, except one quadruple room. The address of

The hotel is 10 metres from the conference venue
i.e. the Florence Synagogue compound.
How to get to the conference:
From Florence station, you can take a taxi. It takes
some 5 minutes to arrive, and costs about EUR 12,00.
On foot, it takes about 20 minutes. You can also
come by bus number 31 or 32 in the direction of P.za
D'Azeglio. You can buy tickets for EUR1,20 from the
newspaper seller or at the back of the bus stops.
Get off on Via della Colonna. Ten meters after the
bus stop, turn on the right to Via Farini. You will
see hotel Arizona at the end of the street on the
left site.
From the airport , you can take a taxi ; it takes 20
minutes and costs about EUR 20,00.
There is also an airport bus that you will find just
in front of the airport exit. The ticket costs EUR
3.10, which you can buy on the bus from the driver.
There is a bus every 30 minutes from 5.30 A.M. to
11.30 P.M.
Come off to the bus at the railway station , cross
the station on foot, and just in front of you, you
will see the bus stop. Take numbers 31 or 32, as
above.

Registration dues for the Conference are as follows,
for those who have not yet paid and wish to
participate:

110 Euros for non-members
70 Euros for SOSTEJE student members

Membership dues are paid biennially. Dues are still
